Storage

Grain Storage Contracts: A farmer who has a storage contract with Wessex Grain may deliver any main line grain commodity to our stores. He is able to bring in any amount of grain but is restricted to how much he can store after the harvest period by the amount of his space entitlement. Each spring the farmer is asked to give Wessex Grain details of his storage and marketing intentions for the subsequent harvest. Usually he would send the commodities that are likely to benefit from storage and or conditioning - Malting Barley, Milling Wheat, Oilseeds, Pulses and any other grain that may need drying or cleaning.

Charges for storage services become due at the end of October and are usually deducted from members’ grain payments.

Central Storage explained:

• Guaranteed storage for all commodities as soon as it leaves the field
• 7 day a week opening hours during harvest to ensure grain can be delivered straight to the store when required.
• Full sampling, testing and weighbridge facilities
• Instant grain analysis and results on demand
• Multiple storage units to allow for grain of differing qualities to be segregated
• Full drying, cleaning and grain conditioning facilities onsite to ensure maximum value obtained from the commodity
• Full blending facilities – adding value to lower quality grains
• Full TASCC assurance eliminating the need for annual inspections and store maintenance
• Fully registered with LIFFE as a Grain Futures Store bringing greater marketability to grain

And the benefits of it:

• Removes the need to operate and maintain costly on farm drying systems
• Allows the farmer to concentrate on harvesting grain, relieving time and financial pressure
• NO REJECTIONS
• NO DAY TO DAY ON FARM STORE MANAGEMENT
• No collections of grain at inconvenient times
• Central store can handle large volumes of grain outside of specification
• Peace of mind to the farmer that final quality of grain is outside his responsibility
• Eradicates the risk of commodity deterioration or insect infestation giving a longer window to market the grain
• Subsidised haulage of grain into store
• Improved marketing options and no on farm collections throughout marketing season
• Reduced depreciation of farm machinery and property

To assist our farmers, Wessex Grain has developed two options for storage contracts at its central store:

3 Year Storage Contract

The first option is a three-year storage contract. This is for those farmers who wish to try the store without making a long-term commitment, or for existing storage members who wish to increase their storage space for a limited period.

Short-term storage contracts may be converted to long-term contracts and will be entitled to a reduction in price off the long term contract price.

Full Storage Contract

A farmer may purchase a storage contract by making a capital investment in Wessex Grain Ltd.
The above contracts are subject to the availability of space within the store.

Farmers with storage space to sell

The company has a few farmers who wish to sell their storage space. The company will put prospective buyers in contact with them – but the negotiations are left to the farmers concerned.
