Wessex Grain is at the forefront of promoting fuel bioethanol production from cereals in the UK. During the past few years it has developed its knowledge of the technology and issues involved with this business and is part of a network of interested parties throughout the UK, Europe and the USA.
It continues to offer growers contracts for cereals on set-aside land in the UK for bioethanol production and is liasing with seed breeders to select the optimum wheat varieties for this market.
In June 2005 Wessex Grain founded a new company Green Spirit Fuels Ltd to develop a biorefinery once the Government has made the economic climate more attractive for biofuels production in this country. Outline planning consent has already been granted for a plant and the Company is now preparing its submission for full planning permission.
