Wessex Grain History

In 1980, a group of 45 farmers from Somerset and Dorset formed Henstridge Grain Services and two farmer-owned cooperatives – Wessex Grain Store Ltd and Wessex Grain Marketing Ltd. All three companies worked in parallel until 1995 when Henstridge Grain Services was renamed Wessex Grain Ltd, and took over the management of the two cooperatives. Eight years later, it took over their operations as well.

Wessex Grain is committed to offering the best possible service to its farmers, and has built several partnerships with other companies in order to continue to enhance this service.

Wessex Grain
In 2005 we sealed an agreement with Masstock Arable to provide a regional grain marketing service for Masstock group companies.

And in 2006, Wessex Grain joined forces with Cornwall Farmers to offer a comprehensive grain marketing service to farmers in Devon and Cornwall.

.

On two occasions in 2004, Wessex Grain was awarded the accolade of top wheat supplier for two Rank Hovis mills – reflecting the high level of service we offer to both farmers and grain users. This also acknowledged the emphasis Wessex Grain puts on the quality of its products, on food safety, and on the smooth running of its operations.

At Wessex Grain we also have a strong interest in renewable energy. You can find out more about this by clicking on the renewables link on the left-hand side.
